Judging from the information given by this scenario, if Carlos refuses to take the plea bargain, the next thing would come along is that they’re gonna be get tangled with legalese, which, according to Gaby’s statement, “they’re gonna blown all the money on the lawyers.”.
In other words, all the money that Carlos put away for retirement, including the monetary compensation offered by the hospital for his mother’s unnatural death, will be going down the drill.
Based on the information that we’ve learnt so far, the reason why the D.A.’s office is willing to offer Carlos a plea bargain is because Tanaka, Carlos’s boss, is still at large. And it takes unlimited time to track him down, therefore, if Carlos take the plea bargain, comply with the current settlement, the downside is that there’s gonna be a criminal record in his Rap sheet, the upside is that he’ll be able to unfreeze some of the bank accounts that seized by the justice department and get part of his money back.
So if Carlos decides to spend the monetary compensation to fight against the justice department, the stakes will be raised, and it’s definitely gonna cost him an arm and a leg on hiring the lawyers. Even if he wins the case, the upshot is that the prosecutors, the D.A.’s office, and justice department, they’re gonna eviscerate him to the extent that he’ll never get back on his feet.
